In order to restrict the management on Clinical Applications of the 3rd Medical Technology, the ministry of health of China drafts out the Regulations on Administration of transsexual operation technology and releases it to public.
The Consultative Draft points out the minimum requests of hospital, doctor and patient.
The patient who want a transsexual operation needs to satisfy following conditions:
- No criminal record
- Local police's promise to update gender status on ID card
- Psychiatrist's certificate
- Written report of patient with acknowledgment
- Certificate which can verify the blood relatives of patient have been informed
Additional conditions (request)
- Over 20 years old with full capacity for civil conduct
- single or unmarried
- More than 1 year psychotherapy
- constant request on transsexual operation more than 5 years
- Live or work as the other gender in public more than 2 years
So the road for a man or woman to receive a transsexual operation in China is not that smooth. To be a gay in China is one thing, to change gender is another.
Anyway the regulation open a gaps for those guys who believe them self should be the other gender.
